Studio D'Artisan is known for its continuous innovation, and the upcoming season will see the introduction of the new 'GL3' series, which joins the brand's standard selvedge denim lineup. The 'GL3' refers to the loom that produces this new series and follows the timeline of Japanese selvedge denim, succeeding the popular G3 shuttle looms. The Toyoda company, which is the parent organisation of Toyota, initiated this series with the revolutionary Toyota Model G Loom in 1924. This groundbreaking machine was patented and licensed by Toyota, providing the financial foundation for the eventual establishment of the Toyota car company in 1937.
The 'G3' shuttle loom is celebrated as the first machine capable of weaving Japanese selvedge denim locally, and the 'GL3' shuttle loom is its direct successor, featuring further enhancements and innovations. With SDA's extensive experience in selvedge denim, this new series carefully calibrates every aspect of the production process. After multiple trials, the team meticulously selected each detail, including the depth of indigo in the rope-dyeing process, the choice of a No. 7 super slub yarn for added texture, and the GL3 loom's settings to create low tension denim.
